Answers to a few commonly asked questions.
The Jr. Friars Rugby Club was founded in 2015. We are organized, funded and supported solely by volunteers and sponsors. The Jr. Friars are registered to play in the Rugby Illinois sanctioned middle school league, which consists of over 20 teams.
Rugby is one of the fastest-growing youth sports in the US, and the second-most popular sport in the world behind soccer. It is a free-flowing, fast-paced game. All players can pass, catch and run with the ball, and play both defense and offense at any given time during the game. Most appealing is the fact that there's a position for everyone who wants to play—large or thin, short or tall.
We recommend weather appropriate clothing, a water bottle, and cleats if you have them. Although there is no tackling in the mini-camps, mouth guards are recommended..
A full uniform is included in the registration fee.
